This week we got a special valentines from Grandma Palmer. The kids loved the candy and letters!

I was surprised by this breakfast in bed. Instead of working out, Denver stayed home and while we were all snoozing, made breakfast.

We had a Relief Society Activity and learned how to make Moyetas (I'm not sure of the spelling, but that's how it sounds. ) A delicious and easy Mexican dish. We had all but 4 sisters there so about 14 of us were there.

We found all the boys doing this together. We told them to wait so we could get a picture. The first time they did it was the most impressive-after a while of holding, they were getting tired.

On Wednesday I went to a class to learn how to make Alcatra (a dish special to the island, not Portugal). It's been passed down by word of mouth for years. The woman that taught us is from South Africa and married a portuguese man. She learned how to make alcatra from the ancients. It's made (cooked and all) in a clay pot and it is soooooo delicious.

I didn't take any pictures, but I found this from the internet. It's very easy and I can't wait to try it on my own.
We went to the Portuguese store and bought these special treats. The bread was good, but the white cream tasted too much like shortening with sugar. The kids really liked it.

The ice cream here is very different. We can go to the comissary (the grocery store on base) and get the American ice cream, but it's fun to eat stuff from here too. The ice cream is very good here. I liked this kind. At the particular, kind of ghetto, store we went to there wasn't alot of selection of flavors.

Yesterday was a holiday so Denver worked on the brakes which came in over the weekend. The first side was easily done, but the other side had a stripped bolt so he couldn't get it off. We were bummed and now we have to wait even longer to drive anywhere as a family.
In the evening yesterday we had a barbecue with some friends outside. The weather was nice and breezy. No pictures though :(
Today I took the boys to the Dentist to get their teeth checked. They did really well in the chair. We were worried about Sterling because the last time he wouldn't even sit in the chair. His dentist :) said he did better than most kids his age.

While Cole waited for his turn he played Angry Birds. He doesn't get to play unless we're at a Dr. or visiting teaching so he was thrilled.

As we were waiting for Denver to get changed (it was his lunch break so we were waiting to eat lunch with him), Sterling pulled the fire alarm. When that happens they have to shut down the bldg., get all the patients out and everyone has to wait outside until it's cleared. Luckily there was only one patient and we were able to call the fire department to tell them it was a false alarm before they made their way to the clinic.
That's it for this week. Tune in for next because we're taking a trip!

You can't just not say where you guys are going. =P At least give us a hint. =)
It's so fun hearing about your adventures! I'd love to have the recipes for the food you learned how to make - we love trying new things!
