Diaper changing
Maelie really wanted to change Sterling's wet diaper so I let her give it a try. I redid it after she proudly left the room.
Black history month
The month of February is black history month so our ward had a black church history sacrament meeting. It was absolutely incredible!!!! WE LOVED IT and wish that everyone could've been there and felt the spirit of it. It was really neat. Another great benefit of living in Philadelphia.
Only black priesthood holders blessed and passed the sacrament (with the exception of one because there weren't enough there). The bishopric member that is black conducted the meeting. There was a choir and all the speakers were black. We learned about the black LDS members in history which was really neat. A member of our ward who was baptized in the 60s bore his testimony about the priesthood and how he knew he couldn't receive the priesthood because he was black, but he was okay with that because he knew the church was true. Finally he was able to receive the priesthood and he bore testimony about how the priesthood has blessed their family. It was very neat! The congregation sang the black anthem at the end of the meeting. DJ and I heard plenty of "amens" during the meeting and songs. Once again, WE LOVED IT. I hope they do it every year in February.
Here are the words to the song/anthem we sang at the end.
"Lift ev'ry voice and sing, Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise, High as the list'ning skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;
Facing the rising sun Of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won.
Stony the road we trod, Bitter the chat'ning rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat, Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our people sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
We have come, treading our path thro' the blood of the slaughtered;
Out from the gloomy past, till now we stand at last
Where the bright gleam of our bright star is cast.
God of our weary years, God of our silent tears,
Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who hast by thy might, Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, We Pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places our God, where we met thee,
Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget thee;
Shadowed beneath thy hand, May we forever stand,
True to our God, True to our native land."
It was a very awesome meeting!!!!

Sterling's first snow
We finally had a "real" snow storm here. All the other times we've had snow this winter it melted the next day. It has been a very mild winter. Hooray! I do not like the cold, dreary days!
We decided to bundle up and play in the snow in our front yard. We played for nearl 1 1/2 hours! Maelie making a snow angel.

Our snowman???? Being from AZ, I don't really know how to make a snowman. Maybe the snow was too powdery? We gave it our best shot though. It's pretty sad that the mom can't teach her kids how to make a snowman.

We grabbed one of our cardboard boxes and tried to sled down the hill with it, but it didn't work. Luckily, our nice neighbors let us borrow their sled and their shovel! We have to shovel our own snow! For the 6+ years we've been married and for the 4+ years we've lived in a place where it snows, we've never had to shovel a thing. It was actually very fun to do. The kids helped out and I think we did a pretty good job on it.

Our sidewalk shoveled off.

We live on a hill and I was getting a kick at watching the school kids walk home from school down our hill slipping and sliding and sometimes falling. (The schools had a halfday).
This was Garrett after we played. He spent the last 20 minutes eating the snow and this is what happened to his little face. Poor boy.

New hairdoo
Wow, it's been a long time since I last posted or read blogs. It's so cold in the basement and that is where my computer is so I don't go down here very often and by the time I'm done with the computer, I go upstairs an icicle.
Quany ( a young women in my ward) braided my hair. It's not quite the way their hair looks braided because all this is my own hair while they buy hair to braid into theirs. Theirs looks much better and more full. It was fun to have it done.

Early Easter
I got this information from my mom and thought it was pretty cool. Even if it isn't true (she hasn't checked out the facts yet), it is very interesting.
'The e-mail I received said that Easter is always the 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after the Spring Equinox (which is March 20). This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify Passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar.
Easter can actually be one day earlier (March 22) but that is pretty rare. Here's the interesting info. This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see the rest of our lives! And only the most elderly of our population have ever seen it this early (95 years old or above!). And none of us have ever, or will ever, see it a day earlier! Here's the facts:
1) The next time Easter will be this early (March 23) will be the year 2228 (220 years from now). The last time it was this early was 1913 (so if you're 95 or older, you are the only ones that were around for that!).
2) The next time it will be a day earlier, March 22, will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now). The last time it was on March 22 was 1818. So, no one alive today has or will ever see it any earlier than this year!
