My favorite things to do at school are lunch, recess, math, and social studies. At lunch we get hand sanitizer and hurry to buy or grab our lunch. At recess, of course, we play! At math we learn about adding, subtracting , hundreds, tens, and ones. And finally, at social studies we learn about lots and lots of history. But the best part of school is friends. My friends are Olivia, Sofia, Payton, Jacquelyn, and Kerry. Who are your friends?

Our next adventure is...
Azores, Portugal! We will be stationed at Lajes Air Force Base on Terceira Island, a part of the Azores for the next 2 years of our lives! Kind of like a mission :D
Weather: (this was really important to me) This is NOT a tropical island, but the weather is very temperate. The average lows in the winter are in the 50s and the average high in the summer are in the 70s. Can be very windy and certain times of the year it rains alot. The highest mountain is over 7000 feet elevation, but it is on a different island, not Terceira. (There are 9 islands that make up the Azores.)
Church: (also very important to me) We will be in the military branch. They don't have a website so I haven't learned much about it yet. But I do know they meet at 9 :). The nearest temple is in Madrid, Spain.
School: The kids will go to the dod (department of defense) school with an american teacher. There are only about 15 kids per grade in the elementary grades and 2-3 students per grade in high School.
Economy: It's main industries are agriculture, dairy farming, minor livestock ranching, fishing and tourism.
Entertainment: They are well known for 'bull-fights on a rope". From May to September they let a bull (on a very long rope) out in town square or another open place and brave or stupid (depending on your opinion) people provoke the bulls and it's a huge part of entertainment. You can watch some azore bull fights on you tube if you're intrigued.
There's so much more to learn about the people and their culture and other things on the island, but this is all I know so far. Now I'm sure this is more than you've ever wanted to know about the Azore Islands. Wish us luck!!!!

Our March 2011
Wow! March passed by quickly! I spoke in our ward Young Women's New Beginnings. I used the same cake object lesson that our Bishop in Philadelphia used to teach virtue. The rest of the cake went to the kids after I got home from that night. Here is one happy boy loving the thick frosting!
Garrett's kindergaten class ( and all the kinder classes in his school) put on a musical for all the parents "Everybody Smiles in the Same Language". They sang six or so songs and had some speaking parts. It was really cute and fun to watch.

I started training for a 5k in January and ran it in March at McKendree University. Here are the kids by a statue on campus.
It was a small group which was nice. I was able to get through the pain in my knee and train for this race. My next goal is a 10k.
I finished strong. I felt fine after the race and wanted to keep going. Denver and the kids were waiting on the sidelines for me to finish. It was a perfect Saturday morning run and we had the rest of the day to do what we wanted.
The next weekend Denver flew to Atlanta, GA for a Dental Conference he was speaking for. He planned a presentation and had to give it over and over for 3 hours. He was also able to attend some classes. He had a good time, but we sure missed him. He was only gone 5 days, but it was still too long.

This is a pretty morning shot I took from our sliding door window at breakfast. It's nice to eat breakfast with that view. We love the wide open space behind our house and will miss it when we move. We've turned in our list (ranking all the bases open) and will find out where we'll be moving on Friday.
