Colson's Surgery

This cute little boy had surgery today. He had a circumcision revision. Poor kid! He did great though. He was very happy tonight and should recover quickly. He and I were at the hospital (The Children's hospital of St. Louis) from about 7am-2pm. He came out of anesthesia very irritable (which was to be expected, the nurse told me), but after about 30 minutes he calmed down. Once he was able to eat food he was very happy. He loves his food.

The St. Louis Arch aka the Gateway arch

One thing we were able to do on our Christmas break was take the journey to the top of the arch.

This is the Mississippi River in the background

To get to the top you have to ride in this little elevator thing that seats 5 people. It was a tight squeeze. It's a good thing the kids are small.

At the top. We are 630 feet above ground at this point.

The view of St. Louis from the little windows inside the arch.

The Cardinals stadium
Looking straight down

There was also a museum we went through while at the arch.
The arch was the symbol of the gateway to the west. The museum had a lot about the oregon trail, mormon trail, Sacajewia, and other Western movements. Here is a quote by and Indian chief that I really liked:
We had a ton of fun going to the arch. Because we went during the Winter there weren't too many people and we were able to spend plenty of time enjoying the top and the museum without crowds of people.

Christmas Eve and Day

We truly had a white Christmas this year. Not only was there already snow on the ground from Christmas Eve, it was snowing off and on all day on Christmas. It was beautiful and a great Christmas!
Dad and Garrett built a snowman on Christmas Eve day. It was very cute and leafy :)

We ate like Kings and Queens. Here is our Christmas Eve spread! It was delicious.

After dinner we acted out the Nativity with scriptures and songs. Even Sterling listened and participated this year and did great representing all 3 wise men.
Maelie=Mary; Garrett=Joseph; Sterling=3 wise men; Colson=all the animals in the stable; Mom=the angel; Dad=a shepherd

After the nativity, we opened one present and then off to see Christmas lights. It was slow and go because it was still snowing and the roads hadn't been plowed, but it was very pretty.
We always have a special Christmas breakfast before the kids open their presents, so we got the table ready the night before after the kids went to bed. Each person got a bag of treats on their plate to eat when they wanted.
Santa came and brought the kids scooters and filled their stockings.

For Christmas breakfast each year we have bacon, sausage, eggs, grits and OJ. Sterling got burned by the piping hot grits and cried for at least 45 minutes. We couldn't open presents until he stopped. These blisters are from the grits. They were huge!

He was fine in the end. :)
Unfortunately we didn't get any pictures on Christmas morning because we took video so that's all! It was a wonderful Christmas!

A week before Christmas

In Primary the kids drew a picture of what they would give the Savior on his birthday. Maelie wrote she wanted to give the Savior her testimony. I thought that was cute. Let the baking begin. We spent a Saturday baking goodies to give away. We made hershey kiss cookies, m&m cookies, reindeer treats, sugar cookies, and pumpkin bread. Mmmm, it was delicious.

We also decorated gingerbread houses. This is one of our favorite traditions.

And we went to visit Santa's Cottage and get pictures taken with him. This was my favorite Santa. He was so jolly and good with the kids. And it was free to get a picture with him!
Colson wasn't so sure of him.

Sterling just wanted a candy cane from Santa. That was the first thing he said to santa.

Unfortunately, Garrett had an accident before we got to the cottage so we didn't allow him to sit on Santa's lap, but he still got to tell Santa what he wanted for Christmas.

A post by Maelie

Today, Mom and I looked at houses to move in. We liked a lot of the houses and it was fun. We looked at pictures. I thought all of the houses looked nice. Right now we are whatching Harold and the purple crayon there are seven stories in that movie. Sterling, Garrett,Colson and me like that movie but Sterling likes it a little more and in the movie the stories are Harold's birthday gift, A blast from the past, Harold the artiste, Harold's walk on the wild side, Harold in the dark, Future clock, and Cowboy Harold. Well thats all. Bye Bye!

Love, Maelie
