5K for Craig Leavitt

Saturday, December 13th the family ran a 5K for one of my high school friends who died of cancer, Craig Leavitt.  It was great to see his family again!  We woke up at 5:00am to drive to Mesa from Oro Valley.  This first picture is of Craig's friends that ran the race.
The two Debbie's :) (Craig's mom's name is Debbie)
I came in with a time of 24:55, a personal best!
Maelie, Sterling and Colson ran the 1 mile fun run.
Sterling won the fun run with a time of 8:02.   He wasn't very humble about it either, telling everyone he came in first.  We had to take time later to teach him about humility.

Denver placed 2nd for the 5K.  He ran it in 19:46 and the 1st place guy in 19:23.  The top 3 winners were/are all military men.
Garrett ran the 5K too and he ran it in 26:12.  Way to go Garrett!  It's not easy to do.
Denver's brother Dustin ran it too.  We had a great time visiting with old friends/ward members.  After the race, we drove back home.

Thanksgiving 2014

For Thanksgiving this year, we signed up the whole family for a race, excluding Deacon.  We went through SAR (Southern Arizona roadrunners). It was a lot of fun!

Here we are the morning of the race. We had to get up early because the race was about 35 minutes away.  Everyone with their numbers.

They split the race up in groups.  First was the womens 5K (which I ran), followed by the mens 5K(which Denver and Garrett ran) and then the fun run which Maelie, Sterling and Colson (with  Denver), ran. The fun run was 1.5 miles.

Here is the start of the womens race.
A quick view of the finish. The 5K was 2 loops around Reid Park in Tucson.

The course had hay bales and mud puddles to jump over.  Some of the women ran around the hay bales, but I jumped over everyone of them.  It was part of the experience so I had to do it.  I ran through the mud puddles because I thought it would be fun.  I think you're supposed to jump over them though, so next time I'll jump over them.

 Heading to the finish.

I finished with a personal best of 25:29!  An 8:11 mile pace. I ended up getting 122nd place overall women (out of over 800) and 19th in my age group.
 The men are off.
 Denver rounding the corner.

Garrett's in the left side of the picture, coming down the hill.

 Heading to the finish.
Denver finished with a time under 20 minutes or just at 20. I need to ask him, but he's not home right now.  :).  He got 96 or 97th place overall men (600+) and 9th or something in his age group.

I was so proud of Garrett for running the 5K.  He did such a great job.

Garrett ended up with a time just over 26 min.  I think if he was running with me, he would've stayed up with me.
 The family after the 5Ks.

Now for the 1.5 mile fun run!
The excitement was felt by all!
Garrett giving his sister a high five.

Part of the course was around this pretty duck pond.
 And by this pretty waterfall.

Here comes Maelie, in the lead, but not for long.  Her foot started hurting her.

Sterling amazed me. I wasn't sure how he was going to do. He was a wildcard.  He ran the whole time and ran fast beating Maelie and Colson.  They didn't time the fun run, unfortunately.

Maelie and Sterling going down the hill.

Coming down the hill you can see Denver and Colson.
Colson just kept running too.  We thought he would get tired and start walking, but he ran the whole thing, without complaint.

At the finish.  I missed Sterling's finish because I was trying to catch all the kids at the mud  puddles and he finished before I could get to the finish line with the camera.    Colson and Denver coming to the finish.

 Maelie coming to the finish.

We all wore the t-shirts we earned the rest of Thanksgiving day

For Thanksgiving dinner/lunch, after the race, we drove 2 hours to Becki DeGroffs for food.  We spent the rest of the day with Denver's family eating and playing games.  We had good food and good company.

Friday after Thanksgiving we spent with my family eating pizza and wings while watching the ASU vs. UofA game.  UofA won!  It was fun because my family wore UofA spirit wear while Kristen and Gary wore ASU spirit wear. Bill was cheering for ASU, I think and so were his kids.   Becky and Glen didn't make it, unfortunately.

Saturday we put up Christmas lights and decorated our tree.  It was a fun-filled weekend!
