May 2013

Colonel Popcorn, a guest, came to Lajes to put on a magic show.  He had some volunteers and called up others who didn't volunteer, Denver, to be part of the show.  I didn't have my camera, only my ipod.  This picture is of Denver with bunny ears, standing like a bunny.  It was a funny  show and the kids loved it!
Garrett made this sword out of a plant. It was thick and strong.
We had a goodbye dinner for a family who was moving because of family conditions.  it was a fun get together with a lot of good food.  The best thing about being in a branch is the tight feeling of family.  We loved the people in our branch and they were our family while in the Azores.

At school the kids had an art show to display their many works of art.   Here are a few of Maelie's.

I think these are Garrett's
Garrett's class came marching in with paper bags on their heads painted by them following Picasso's style.  It was fun to watch.

These shoes were painted by a few of the high schoolers.

More sky pictures because I love them

I got a phone call from the school nurse that Maelie needed a change of shirt because there was blood on hers and another pair of glasses.  She and another kid had collided at recess and her glasses cut her above her eye.  She didn't necessarily have to get stitches, but the clinic wanted to make sure it healed good.

She was very brave through it all.
Daddy and Deacon resting/sleeping.
Garrett turned 8 on May 22.  When our kids turn 8 they get a party so he got to invite some friends and chose to have his party at the bowling alley.  It was an easy party because the kids got to bowl and I didn't have to plan any games and Garrett loved it!

This Spirit House was prepared for a celebration.  I'm going to try to explain Spirit House celebrations more.  When a family needs the Spirit in their home because of problems or something they ask for the spirit to come be with them.  After a week of the Spirit residing in their home, they have a big parade and walk the Spirit from their home back to the Spirit house. The family then shares food and sweet bread with the people there.
The Doctor that Denver went to Peru with had the group over for some Peruvian food and pictures from previous Peru trips. His wife is from Peru so she made some authentic dishes.
I don't remember what all these dishes were called or what was in them, but she told us.

All in all, I decided that I'm not a fan of Peruvian food.  It was okay, but I had no desire to get seconds.
