Birthday time! On Friday, Denver celebrated his 35th birthday. The evening before he was at work until really late preparing for his sedation evaluation that was scheduled 2 months ago for Jan. 9th. Otherwise, he would've taken the day off.
I waited in the parking lot sneakily so right when he left work I could go and decorate his office. Finally, he drove away and Garrett and I scrambled to get all the balloons and cookies into his office to decorate.
His staff also brought in doughnuts and milk and cake for his birthday. The sedation evaluators came around 2 and drilled him for an hour. He said it was hard and it was nonstop drilling.
That evening after work, we stayed in and had a steak dinner (his bday choice) and strawberry shortcake (again his bday choice). He was tired after a long day at work and a long week with preparations for the eval.
A few weeks ago I set up a surprise for him. My RS president (Kim Bailey)'s husband has a plane he flies and a while back they offered to take us up in it, but we never could find a time. We were originally going to go to Sedona and then eat brunch there, but the weather was too cold up there with possible snow ice and Rick Bailey, the pilot, doesn't like to deal with weather (he's a very safe, conservative pilot, which I am grateful for). So we went down south to Bisbee, my birthplace :).
This is the cute plane we flew in. Each person wore headphones with a mic so we could talk to each other. When we got to Bisbee, the municipal airport looked like a ghost town. Normally these airports have courtesy shuttles, but this one didn't. A man who flies planes heard Rick on the radio saying he was landing and came over and offered us a ride! His name was Dan Callahan and he was FUNNY. What a character. I can't even describe him. We all got such a kick out of him. Fun man. He drove us to see the mine and then to the Copper Queen Hotel where we ate brunch, more like lunch by this time :). They served good food. Then we called Dan and he picked us up. He drove us through the nicest area in town so we could see where the top dawgs lived back in the day. And then we went back to the plane and flew home to Tucson.
We flew over our house and texted the kids so they could see. We didn't see them, but they saw us. Maelie texted us back and said, "It's a bird, it's superman...no wait, it's mom and dad!" Ha ha.
Later that night, Denver and I used up a gift card we got for Christmas. It was way too fancy of a restaurant for our liking and felt way out of place, but hey, it was free food so...
PS: Half marathon training started this week. We missed the run today because of the outing, but this was the line up
mon: 4 miles Tues: 5 miles Wed. 4 miles Thurs: off Fri: 7 miles Sat (supposed to be 3, but oh well :)). I really struggled getting up every morning at 5 or 5:30. I mean REALLY struggled. That early of mornings is soooo hard for me, but it's the only time I can run.
One more day (Sunday) before I start it all over again with a 4, 5, 4, off, 2, 8 week!
