Santa Barbara and Biscoitos

One day in December  we drove to the tallest point on the island, Santa Barbara (an active volcano).  It was sunny below, but at the top it was cloudy and moist. It's hard to find a time when it is sunny at the top. There isn't any grass up there, just moss and the ground feels like a sponge. It's neat.  On a clear day, you can see the other islands clearly from the top.  Here are some pictures on the way up.

I love the way the water looks in these pictures.  Unfortunately we didn't have our new camera when we took these pictures so this is with our old, not so good, camera.

At the top.  It's crazy to think it was sunny down below.  It was very foggy this day.

Some of the foliage coming down.

This is near Serreta.   A nice eating area with tables and a playground.

One of my favorite spots is Raminho. It has the best view!

Trying to get a close up of the water fall.

We will really miss driving on the island.  So many beauties and no traffic.

A Spirit House.  I went on a quest to find them all, there are about 80, but haven't done it.  With only a few short weeks left here and a really bad van that overheats, I don't think I'll be able to get them all, but I have some-for a later post.  (I at least have them all in a book we bought).

We took the kids to Biscoitos.  They love climbing on the rocks, I love watching and listening to the waves crash on the rocks.

Tons of lizards to catch

And, of course, our favorite place to get ice cream, Quinta Dos Acores
